Twee mensen, een vader en een dochter, zwijgend. Een paard sjokt. De wind giert. Kaal en onherbergzaam landschap. ‘Something is deeply wrong’. Het paard eet niet. De beelden worden zwarter, alle licht verdwijnt uit de shots. Zo zou het einde van de wereld kunnen voelen, vertelt de man. Geen water, geen voedsel, geen licht, alleen het geluid van de huilende wind, weken aan een stuk. Hij beschouwt The Turin Horse (2011), een film over het paard dat Nietzsche aan het huilen bracht als ‘film’s final gesture’, de film waarna film kan stoppen. De film volgt het paard, niet Nietzsche.
Ik kreeg zin om de zaal te verlaten en die film te kijken, maar ik zat naar de man te luisteren alsof ik onsterfelijk was, alle tijd van de wereld had, terwijl we die tijd niet hebben, de man ziet het einde, overal om zich heen. Hij vergeleek The Turin Horse met The artist is present, ‘art’s final gesture’, waarin Marina Abramovic – all day, every day, from early march until the end of may – aan een tafel zit en iemand tegenover haar in de ogen kijkt, totdat diegene opstaat om plaats te maken een ander. THERE WILL BE NO TALKING, NO TOUCHING, NO OVERT COMMUNICATION OF ANY KIND. Het gaat om het vinden van die broodkruimel die je op het spoor zet, het bos instuurt.

The only thing about this movie that I didn’t like is the audio wind loop that sounded like the muted sound of 1000 people screaming…It would be OK for a couple of minutes but not for fucking 2 hours.. One the most incredible feats of filming I have ever seen. What’s even more amazing is the 2 main characters speak about 10 words each. I just saw this. I’m trying my best not to cry. This is somehow shaking all my beliefs. After watching this piece of art I think, Bergman movies are comedies. Why the horse dying?? A mastership of the notion of time: slowly, contemplative. The thing that blowed me away was the simple prove of the fragility of the human being toward animal and nature (horse and wind). The most radical film ever made. Painful and unforgettable. Shall i get this film and is it worth the money? The trailer looks pretty lame and not much happening but is the whole film like this? This film tests your attachment to this life. This movie is so simple yet so brutal. I always recommend it to my fellow Americans who believe life and society is on the decline and that it should revert ‘back to the way it was’.
