Ze heeft een hekel aan het woord blog \u2013 dat klinkt alsof het verwijst naar \u2018an obstruction in the nasal passage\u2019<\/em>. Ze begon haar weblog toen ze bij Saramago zag dat een log niet interactief hoeft te zijn, dat je niet met lezers in discussie hoeft, dat je eenvoudig goede mooie kleine essays kunt schrijven. Er staat in No time to spare zo&#8217;n wonder van een essay, &#8216;without egg&#8217;, dat begint met de mededeling dat ze in de jaren vijftig Wenen bezocht, in een hotel verbleef, het oude K\u00f6nig von Ungarn-hotel, dat al sinds 1820 bestaat. Met onomstotelijke feiten in de beginzin lokt ze de lezer naar binnen, beweegt van het kleine eilepeltje op het bord naar iets groters. We don\u2019t know exactly for what purposes. But one of the things it does is lead you to recognize what you did not know before.<\/p>\n<p>This is what a lot of mystical disciplines are after \u2014 simply seeing, really seeing, really being aware. Which means you\u2019re recognizing the things around you more deeply, but they also seem new. So the seeing-as-new and recognition are really the same thing.<\/p>\n<p>A very good book tells me news, tells me things I didn\u2019t know, or didn\u2019t know I knew, yet I recognize them\u2014 yes, I see, yes, this is how the world is. Fiction\u2014and poetry and drama\u2014 cleanse the doors of perception.<\/p>\n<p>All the arts do this. Music, painting, dance say for us what can\u2019t be said in words.
