It took me a long time, for example, to understand, or to re-understand, why people do things. Why, in fact, they do anything at all. What is it that occupies their time? So what&#8217;s the why, why are you here?&#8217;<br \/>\nTja, waarom is iemand ergens?<br \/>\nZe komt haar huis soms dagen niet uit, zegt ze, maar pas nadat ze ons drie\u00ebn heeft uitgehoord, alsof ze haar ervaring wil toetsen (&#8216;do you need human interaction? \u2013 will any stranger do?&#8217;).<br \/>\nZe is niet introvert, ze is inert, zegt ze, ze verandert niet uit zichzelf van snelheid of richting.<br \/>\nZe stelt voortdurend vragen, alsof ze net uit een driedaags inkluizen is ontwaakt, ze noemt haar honger nieuwsgierigheid. Het kalmeert me, het kalmeert me om over wat ze zegt na te denken.<br \/>\nInertie.<br \/>\nFysica, geen psychologie.<br \/>\nZe heeft natuurlijk een niet meer te overbruggen voorsprong. Terwijl wij in steenkolenengels door stroop waden, naar woorden zoeken (&#8216;your pronunciation is way better than that of the Germans&#8217;), schaatst zij over een vlakke baan.<br \/>\nZe noemt twee favoriete boeken, A Fine Balance en Ready Player One.<br \/>\nZe stelt me voor het dilemma: the inward or the outward journey.
